KIRKLAND - A Seattle Seahawk running back and his girlfriend are going their separate ways after he was charged yesterday with misdemeanor assault following an argument in their Kirkland apartment.

Ahman Green, 22, is charged with fourth-degree assault in the incident Thursday morning at the Evergreen Heights Apartments on Northeast 133rd Way.

He pleaded not guilty in Kirkland Municipal Court yesterday and posted $2,000 bail. A pretrial hearing is set for April 12.

According to the complaint filed by Green's girlfriend of five years, Shalynn Vance, 22, he pushed a door into her face as he left the apartment Thursday morning. She said she suffered a chipped tooth and cut lip.

She told police she was leaving Kirkland next week to go to her mother's home in Florida, where the couple's 2-year-old daughter is living.

Judge Mariane Spearman approved a no-contact order sought by Vance. Green's attorney, Todd Maybrown, said Green also was moving out of the apartment and didn't want to see Vance again.

Vance told the judge she has been physically abused by Green since they have lived together. She said she never reported the attacks because Green told her it would "mess up my career."

A third-round draft choice of the Seahawks last season, Green was used sparingly. He was backup to running back Ricky Watters.

He was a three-year starter at the University of Nebraska and was the No. 2 rusher in Cornhusker history with 3,880 yards and 42 touchdowns.
